You’re All Alone

Yes, when you’re writing. You’re sitting alone at the desk and it’s just you and the page.

But have you ever read the acknowledgements of successful books?

Do you think an athlete superstar got to where he is all by himself?

Or an actor? A director?

Every successful person is surrounded by a team.

And if you think they only got that team when they became successful, think again. Often, what you see is that in the team around famous and successful people there are one or two who stuck around the whole way and supported that person.

You as a writer also need a team. Surround yourself with people who believe in your cause, who cheer you on and who give you a shoulder to lean on when it’s necessary.

My bet is, even if you might not see it right now, most probably you already have a team in place.

That may mean your mum watching the kids for an hour so you can write. Your significant other doing the dishes or doing the shopping for you so you can work. Or a friend who can tell all your worries to and who just listens without judging.

That may also mean a therapist, a coach, a teacher, …

Think about what kinds of people you would like your team to consist of. If you start to make conscious decisions about that most likely that team will form around yourself in no time.

You’re the athlete. Now go pick your team.
