Like Musicians In A Brain Scan
I’m reading a book right now that’s called “Range: Why Generalists Triumph In a Specialized World”
The book mentions a study that was done on musicians.
They analyzed, which of their brain regions were active when they’re playing.
The interesting thing about that was, that when they improvised, just let go of all the rules and really started creating new stuff, the brain region associated with judgement (or self-judgement) had no or almost no activity.
We writers can improvise too.
In fact, that’s what we’re doing all the time.
We’re trying out new ideas on the page, see if they work, play with “what if’s”, go back and forth…
So, when you really want to create new, exciting stuff, do it like the musicians!
Improvise and shut your self-judgement off.
And inspiration will come!
